Blood Flow Restriction Training

Targeted Care for Total Recovery

Support Where You Need It

Freedom Where You Want It.

“After my ACL surgery, I was really struggling to build strength without putting too much pressure on my knee. The team at Ledesma introduced me to Blood Flow Restriction training, and the results blew me away. Within weeks, I noticed real improvements in strength and mobility—without the joint pain I usually felt during workouts. I trust them completely and highly recommend BFR training for anyone recovering from injury!”

~Marcus T., Savannah, GA

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training—also known as Occlusion Training or KAATSU—is a cutting-edge technique that combines low-intensity exercise with controlled restriction of blood flow to produce strength and hypertrophy gains comparable to traditional high-intensity workouts. Originally developed in Japan in the 1960s, KAATSU training has evolved into a well-researched and clinically supported method used worldwide by elite athletes, physical therapists, and rehabilitation specialists.

At Ledesma Sports Medicine, we incorporate BFR training as part of our advanced rehabilitation offerings to help clients build strength, enhance muscle recovery, and restore function—all while minimizing joint and cardiovascular strain. Using specially designed wide cuffs, typically between 10-12 cm in width, we safely restrict venous blood return while maintaining arterial flow to the targeted limbs. This creates a temporary hypoxic (low oxygen) environment in the muscle, stimulating growth hormone release, muscle fiber recruitment, and cellular swelling—all key components of muscle adaptation and recovery.

BFR is particularly beneficial for patients recovering from injury or surgery who may not be ready to lift heavy weights. By simulating the effects of high-load training with only light resistance, BFR allows patients to continue progressing during early phases of rehab, without compromising healing tissues or increasing stress on joints.

Sessions involve alternating intervals of light exercise and rest, with the BFR cuffs remaining inflated during both phases to maximize physiological response. Our clinicians carefully monitor pressure levels and exercise form to ensure optimal results and safety.

Whether you’re recovering from orthopedic surgery, managing chronic pain, or simply trying to regain strength safely, BFR training can be an effective, science-backed tool to accelerate your progress.
